To my dear grandma,
What a pity that you left before I learned to understand the
passion you had for your birthplace - Lisbon!
It is true that you were 91, but forgive me for listening to
those who knew nothing about so much that you understood how to love your
homeland; your sisters and nephews, also Lisboners; your children and,
especially, two of your 7 grandchildren, luckily for me, one was myself - the
first - the other, my little brother.
I still remember the smacks of your repeated and exaggerated
kisses on both of us; yes, because you were never able to disguise your
predilection for these two sons of your only son, whom you loved so much too.
He, the youngest of your grandchildren, is gone too - you
know - and too soon. Would you have met?
Grandma Delmira, receive this tribute so late, but the one I
was so delighted to elaborate, that I was so moved by singing with the heart
each one of the fados that I decided to choose and that, since I was a little
girl, I learned what they said by listening to you singing them.
With all my love as an elder, too,
Delza
